Dialup Setup,
Step by Step
You must have the following components installed from
Control Panel -> Network.
- Remote Access Service (RAS)
- TCP/IP Protocol
NOTE: The following are common problem(s) for first time NT dialup accounts.
- Under the security tab in the Phonebook Entry make sure
that you select, "use any authentication." The default selection of encrypted
password is NOT correct.
WINDOWS NT 4.0 SBnet SETUP
Go to Control Panel:
Select the Network Icon
The Network Window has five tabs.
1) Identification Tab:
enter the computer name
enter the workgroup name
2) Services Tab:
Make sure the following services are enabled. If they aren't, enable
them.
- Computer Browser
- NetBIOS Interface
- Remote Access Service
- Server
- Workstation
3) Protocols Tab:
- TCP/IP is Installed
- Highlight TCP/IP and Click on Properties button, which has 4 tabs:
- IP Address tab:
- DNS tab:
- Enter your Host Name in the entry box.
- Enter domain name "sb.net" in the entry box.
- In the DNS Search Order box type Primary DNS, click
add, and enter Secondary DNS, click add.
- In the Domain Suffix Search Order type "sb.net", click add.
- WINS Address Tab:
- Check - Enable DNS for Windows Resolution
- Do not enable LMHosts Lookup
- Routing Tab:
Select OK to close the TCP/IP Properties window.
4) Adapters Tab:
- If you are a stand-alone system, leave alone. Do not
install MS Loopback. If you are networked, add your
network cards.
5) Bindings Tab:
Select OK to close the Network window.
If you are prompted to reboot (restart) your computer, please do so.
Select Dial-Up Networking from My Computer.
Select New.
- Enter SBnet for Phonebook Entry, click
next.
- Check - I'm calling the internet.
- Check - send my plain text password, click next.
- Enter SBnet's local telephone number, click next: 562-0360
- Click finish.
Click on more.
Select - edit Entry & Modem Properties, which has 5 tabs.
1) Basic tab:
- Entry name - type SBnet.
- Comment - leave blank.
- Phone number - SBnet's local phone number: 562-0360
- Alternate phone numbers can be added.
- Don't use Telephony
Dial using - select the modem.
Click Configure
- Initial Speed - 57600
- Check - Enable Hardware Flow Control
- Check - Enable Modem Error Control
- Check - Modem Compression
Click OK
2) Server tab:
- Dial-up server type - PPP, Windows NT, Windows 95 Plus, Internet
- Check TCP/IP for Network Protocol
- Click TCP/IP Settings
- Select - Server assigned IP address
- Select - Specify name server addresses
- Check - Use IP header compression
- Check - Default gateway on remote network
- Click OK
- Check - Enable software compression
- Check - Disable PPP LCP extensions
3) Script tab:
- After dialing (login) - select None
4) Security tab:
- Select - Accept any authentication including clear text
5) X.25 tab:
- Leave alone unless you have an X.25 network provider
Select OK
You are back in the Dial-Up Networking window.
Exit Dial-Up Networking and restart your computer.
1) Select Dial-Up Networking
Click Dial
- Enter your username without the @sb.net after it.
- Enter your password.
- Leave the Domain Entry blank.
Click OK
When you are connected, a "Connection Complete" window
should open.
Click OK
Now you can run your internet programs. |
